Joe Cassella 5K Returns to McLean

On Sunday, May 17, 2015, Joan and I woke up bright and early to volunteer for the Registration Booth at the Joe Cassella 5K which returns from a one-year hiatus.  The Joe Cassella Foundation was proud to bring back its signature fundraising event in the 5K walk/run.  Participants from all over the region came together to raise money for children with serious medical conditions.  As you probably know, medical insurance is great to have, but even the best plan does not cover everything.  Families have immense financial liabilities when it comes to medical care, and the Joe Cassella Foundation seeks to help those families.

My favorite experience at this race was checking in a family that formerly had received help from The Joe Cassella Foundation.  I thought the little girl seemed so familiar to me.  After I checked in her family, as I saw her running around in the courtyard with her brother, it suddenly clicked in my head!  When I last saw her family, they were accepting a generous donation from the Foundation.  I don't even think she was healthy enough to attend.  I simply remembered her photo from the Foundation website.  So happy to see the immense improvement in health, Little One!  - jw
