KAMRA Inlay Receives FDA Approval

Well, it looks like the FDA is at least approving some things, if not CXL.

The KAMRA corneal inlay just received FDA approval.  The inlay disc uses pinhole optics to allow presbyopic patients enhanced near vision while maintaining good distance vision in the operated eye.  See this video clip from the President of Acufocus taken while at the ASCRS meeting in San Diego this year.

Earlier this year, the iFS by AMO received FDA approval to create intracorneal pockets for corneal inlays.  One other femtosecond laser, the Femto LDV laser (Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems AG), has the ability to also make intracorneal pockets for inlays.  The FS200 by Alcon has yet to receive approval at this time.  - jw
