4th Annual Joe Cassella 5K Walk/Run

Post date: May 21, 2013 12:18:21 AM

TLC Tysons Corner was a major sponsor of the Joe Cassella Foundation's 5K walk/run for the fourth year in a row. The Joe Cassella Foundation supports the families of young medical patients who need help with expensive treatments. This year's walk/run raised money to benefit two young ladies, one of whom actually participated in the race and accepted the check that was actually much larger than she is. She had a smile that would melt any heart!

This year's race got off to a misting start, but by the end of the race, the rain had long ended. 750 racers had registered for the event, but rain kept a few people away. In all, 519 walkers and runners completed the nice trail that wound through the nearby McLean neighborhood. Since this was a family-oriented affair, there were lots of kids and dogs present.

Team TLC had a mixture of racers and volunteers. Joan, JoAnne, and Pam (a former TLC-er) worked the Auction Booth. Dr. Mahal, Cindy, Mary (also a former TLC-er), my husband (a wannabe TLC-er), and I rounded out the race team. I think that this may have been the biggest showing that we've had so far!

Some great moments: 1. I did not finish last! Yea! and 2. I saw a lady slowly but surely gently place like 5 apples into her bag, followed by 5 bagels, and then finally ending with a pitstop at the cookie station. Yes, 5 of those ended up in her bag. Weird!

Looking forward to next year! - jw
