Dr. Holzman's Approach to PRK Co-Management

Last Monday, June 3, Dr. Holzman lectured about PRK co-management as part of the TLC Tysons Corner CE Series. The rate of PRK procedures has increased both nationally and within our Center, so it is important to know what to look for when caring for your PRK patients.

The single most difficult aspect of PRK co-management is deciding when the bandage contact lens is ready to be taken out. Your team of TLC ODs had a lot of fun taking pictures of patients on Day 4 post-op, which is usually when the BCL is ready for removal. Take a peek at our photo album.

You can take pics like this by just using your Smart Phone! Place your phone's camera up to the oculars of your slit lamp, align everything, and click!

We discussed the removal of bandage contact lenses with forceps. This tends to be very gentle on the cornea when you use forceps to grasp the contact lens edge. Slide one tip of the forceps under the bandage contact lens edge, pinch the forcep edges together, then pull away from the cornea.

Dr. Sheebani Bathija of Reston had a great idea. She wanted to take a picture with Dr. Holzman to help personalize the LASIK page of her practice website! If you want to do the same, Dr. Holzman would be glad to oblige. No charge! - jw
