Personal Desk Humidifier

These past two winters have been really harsh. I have seen way more dry eye patients these past two years vs prior years. One of the things that we have recommended is for patients to use humidifiers at night, but what about during the day when we are not blinking secondary to excessive computer usage?

I found this little guy at the Bed Bath and Beyond. It's a humidifier that you can keep on your desk to humidify your personal space. (Note: The mist that comes out of the humidifier is not nearly what is depicted in the cartoon of the product.) I found that it made a big difference in the comfort of my eyes and nose (another mucous membrane that can easily dry out), especially when I had to use an additional space heater to keep warm.

So, I do have to admit that the first one of these that I got didn't work. Dr. Mahal actually did some research and found this video which confirmed that our first humidifier wasn't working properly. BBB was kind enough to exchange the humidifier for a new one, and that one worked great!

The only annoying thing about this is that it is so tiny. I kept having to add more water throughout the day to keep it running. I think next year, I might just use a real size humidifier now that I know how much of a difference in comfort it made all day! - jw
