Retina Group of Washington speaks at TLC CE

Post date: Feb 03, 2012 1:8:19 AM

Many thanks to the four Retina Group of Washington doctors that spoke at this Monday's TLC CE event. They really helped us get the 2012 CE season off to a great start! We had 65 optometrists from Virginia, Maryland, and DC attend the lecture, making this the largest audience yet for our CE events in our new location.

Dr. Alex Melamud discussed retinal considerations in patients considering refractive surgery. Basically, careful retinal examination beforehand can save patients from having post-op complications. When in doubt, send it in for evaluation. Dr. Melamud played a huge role in putting this event together. Can't thank him enough!

Dr. Reshma Katira gave a great description of vitreal dynamics during the PVD process. You know RGW is awesome when one RGW specialists cites another RGW specialist in their lecture. (Dr. Katira used data from a paper by Dr. Lai. Way cool!)

Dr. Daniel Berinstein talked about a new wet ARMD treatment called Eylea. This treatment has the potential to be used bimonthly rather than monthly which can have a huge impact on quality of life for ARMD patients and their families.

Dr. Aziz Khanifar showed off his technological skills during his presentation by using his iPhone to control his presentation slides on his iPad. So many awesome OCTs showing macular disease. Those scans really brought the retinal diseases to life for me.

Thanks also to Sylvie Steinberg, RGW's Events and Practice Relations Specialist, for coordinating COPE and event details with Joan.

Our next CE event will be in March 2012. Look forward to seeing you then. Let's try to get an even bigger crowd going!

Also, look to attend the Retina Group of Washington's Regional Optometric Retina Symposium on Sunday, April 22, 2012, from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center, 3800 Reservoir Rd. NW, Washington, DC 20057. RSVP to Sylvie Steinberg, 301-220-2312, or ssteinberg@retinagroup.org. - jw
